A Touch of Homesick
Well the homesick bug has hit me lately. Womp Womp.
Sidebar: I stole "womp womp" from my friend Meghan. If she reads this, she will see that I have in fact acknowledged this steal.
So to help cure this bug, I have made a list about the things I love about living in Australia:

So to help cure this bug, I have made a list about the things I love about living in Australia:
1. Where I live, it is always warm.
2. More people talk to me than usual because of my "cool accent".
3. I also get free drinks because of this.
4. I have met people from pretty much everywhere it feels like. (Yes, I know this can happen in the US too but it didn't really happen for me until here, so I count that as a good thing about here).
5. It's definitely a growing experience and I am learning LOTS about myself. As my parents say, this is a "character building" experience.
6. The accents, they still get me, especially on commercials because they are so exaggerated.
7. My amazing Australian boyfriend.
Pretty rough, my birthday.
8. Since I am living in another country for only a few years, I am eager to see everything in it and near it. I make the effort to travel more than I ever would if I was home. Trust me, there are SO many amazing things to see and experience on this big island of a country.
Airlie Beach, Whitsunday Islands, heading here soon.
9. All the native animals. They're cool. Even the weird birds that swoop at people on campus. For example, I see pretty white tropical birds everyday on my walk to school. Also, magpies still really excite me and they are pretty much just fancy looking crows. So even the common animals and birds are new to me which can only be cool from an outsider's prospective. Except pigeons of course, those rodents with wings are everywhere.
Magpie.
10. I learn new expressions and words on a weekly basis. Yea, they really do say some strange things here.
Moral of the post is: there's always something good about anything! Or maybe ten somethings.

Dresses: My First Love
Like many girls, I have quite an intimate relationship with dresses. I enjoy all kinds; you name it and I want it. Especially floor length, I wish I had more formal things to wear one to. However, I don't live in some magical world of monthly formal events so I just have to dream of wearing them.
I am currently working on shedding some poundage, and once I reach my first goal then I am going to treat myself to a new dress! A new dress is great motivation for something like that, right?
Some dresses I have been crushing on:
Obviously the last one is more of a prom/formal dress but I wish I had an excuse for it. I know the trends these days for prom and formals are shorter dresses but my theory is stick to the floor length! Most people only have a handful of occasions they can wear this kind of a dress to, so take advantage of every one. I love the feeling of elegance and femininity you get from wearing this kind of a dress. Plus don't the photos turn out wonderfully with you in a snazzy formal dress and a beau in a tux?
Do you have any dresses you are hardcore crushing on?

Above the Rest
My last week was CRAZY again. We had another tough assignment that took lots of work but it's OVER! Celebration dance! My celebration started Thursday night with some green St. Patrick's day fun. Then last night, the Black and White Cocktail Affair at the Q1 SkyPoint.
The Q1 building is the tallest building in the southern hemisphere and the tallest residential building in the world! Seriously, I had so much fun. Fun atmosphere with an amazing view of Surfers Paradise and fun people. It couldn't be better. After the party we went to a karaoke bar, probably one of the most hilarious things I have heard in awhile. There were men in their 40s singing their hearts out.
I was trying to find my dress to post here but I can't find it! It's in the store but not on the website, weird.
Now I just need to figure out dinner tonight. Pancakes?! I love breakfast for dinner.

36 Things
So this was sent to me ages ago by a friend but I still want to talk about it. One of Glamour's dating bloggers made of a list of "36 Things Every Single Girl Must Do Before She Settles Down". You can find the whole article here
Grant it, I have a boyfriend but for all intensive purposes I am considered single and I have definitely not settled down. Here's a couple things I can cross off the list:
1. Go to a movie alone.
2. Lift weights.
5. Live alone, or at least move apartments in NYC without the help of family
9. Fly to a foreign country by yourself (Lived there too)
18. Chill with your widowed and single grandma. She knows "alone"!
20. Do at least one Valentine's Day alone. (That'd be more than one for me)
26. Buy something frivolous and expensive that you LOVE wearing.
30. Learn to cook well. I'm still working on this.
What have you done? What would you like to get done before you "settle down"?
In reference to number 1 and 9, when I first moved to Australia, I moved to Adelaide and I was all by myself. I didn't know a single person on this entire continent, I think maybe not even the entire southern hemisphere. I got to Adelaide on a Saturday night and I use to live on Hindley Street, which is like a somewhat calmer Bourbon Street.
The street was packed with people out for a Saturday night and so after I got out of the cab, all I heard was catcalls. And I was just thinking "what in the world have I gotten myself into?!" After quite an ordeal, I finally made it into my apartment. I was kinda freaked out and jet lagged so I went to bed almost right away. I woke up pretty early the next day and decided to try and find somewhere to eat. Sooo I wandered down Rundle Mall:
Pffft, it was a Sunday morning in Australia sooo pretty much nothing was open. So I had breakfast at Subway...cool? Anyhoos, I wandered around and finally things started to open. I went into the grocery store and spent ages filling up my buggy. I checked out and then it hit me "holy crap, how am I going to carry all these bags home?" I mean I had TONS. Then, I couldn't remember which direction I came from. Well I started by going left (whoops, I lived to the right) and walked quite a ways with my arms DYING from the weight of the bags. People were laughing at me, seriously. I finally realized I was going the wrong way and turned around and painfully made it back to the grocery store and asked them to store my bags while I went and got something to put them in. They said they usually don't do that but I think they felt bad for the stupid American girl. I hustled all the way back to my apartment and got my bright yellow monogrammed LLBean duffle. Yea, that doesn't make me stand out at all. I went back to the store and loaded my bags and made it home. Honestly, that was seriously a very embarrassing moment. Strangers were laughing at me left and right because I couldn't carry all my heavy bags. I looked so stupid.
Well I was alone for the next 2 weeks or so, not really knowing anyone. I even went to a movie all alone because I stumbled across a theater one night when I went walking because I was bored.
I think I'll always remember how alone I felt when I saw this movie. However, I stuck it out and in the end ,not only did I meet some of the most amazing people from all over the world, but I also met the love of my life, my Aussie man.
This was my Thanksgiving in Australia in 2009. Such an amazing one. 3 American friends and I made a huge feast and we ended up having something like 14 countries represented at the dinner. Absolutely wonderful!
Being on your own somewhere very far from home is a very scary thought and even scarier to do, but I did it and it was worth the huge and scary risk! By sticking yourself out there, you learn so much about yourself and grow so much!

Vespa, Take Me Away!
Over the last couple months I have developed an obsession with Vespas. I don't know if it's because I'm living in a sub-tropical beach city or if I am having a quarter life crisis, but I love them. I imagine that if I have a Vespa, I'll look something like this...
Ok, maybe not. Back to reality.
The last week of my life was a toughy with two large assignments due on the same day and exact same time. However, I trudged through. Some new friends and I celebrated turning in our assignments with some drinks and over all good fun. Shenanigans ensued and it was a perfect way to relax after a hard week of full on legal writing.
Then...back to the grind. I found myself distracted in class today and found some yummy goodness that is now on my "Bake Me, I Am a Calorific Masterpiece" List
You can find these scrumptious temptations at Bakers Royale.
Enough distraction, back to the world of cases, legislature and a silly judge named Kirby.

well...it's been awhile
Honestly, I don't know why I stopped blogging. I have been using tumblr, which is a world of microblogging that I love!
But now that I am in law school and everything I write is legal jargon and pretty boring, I NEED A CREATIVE WRITING OUTLET! So I am back.
Fair dinkum! I don't know what it means, it's Aussie slang. I'm fairly positive I have been told numerous times what this awesome expression means, but it never sticks. Either way, I just find it ridiculously funny to say.
Like ampersand, that might be one of my favorite words. Also, don't they just look cool?
And I digress...
Back to the point, I now live in the lovely city of Gold Coast. I was going to describe it as "beachy" but pretty much every major city here is beachy. Let's face it, not many people really want to live in the outback of the driest continent in the world.
I'm here with my lovely man Steve, going to school and really enjoying this next chapter of my life.
Now that my attention is back to school, I need to go finish my two major legal skills assignments due tomorrow. AT THE EXACT SAME TIME. Evil.
