Training

So all seasoned bloggers, like Carly over at College Prep, always advise that a new blogger should set out to blog about what they know and love.

Well, I know a lot about the life of a law student. Boring.

I know a lot about living as an 'ex-pat' in Australia. Boring because currently all I do really is go to school. One day, though, I hope to include travel posts and such once I am free of the law school chains that bind me. One day soon (eeep!).

I am not into music enough to blog about it, nor do I keep up enough with the latest fashion trends to really talk about that.

So what in there world is there for me to talk about that anyone could possibly want to hear?
For starters, I am awkward. I could talk about the regular awkward things that happen to me.
My family is also slightly nuts (in a good way) so I could share some stories.

Therefore, I guess what I can really aim to do as of now in my life, is to offer the reader a smile, laugh or just mindless break from whatever obligations they have.

So with that, I am going to tell you about the time my dad tried to train our cats to use the toilet. Yup, true story. Believe it or not, there are special litter trays that you can put on your toilet to slowly and successfully train your cat to go to the bathroom in the toilet. It's a tray the fits the bowl and you fill the area of the toilet seat hole with litter. Then ever so slightly, you cut the tray regularly until it reaches the same size as the actual toilet seat hole. Your cat slowly learns to balance and do its business without ever knowing. Genius or crazy?

These are not my cats but I felt a picture of a cat using a toilet HAD to be shared. I also love the fact that his friend is watching. Poor kid can't get any privacy.

Seriously, could you imagine walking into the bathroom in your house to find it already occupied by your cat? The whole process was actually pretty mortifying for my 12 year old self. Not only did I have to remove a litter tray every time I wanted to use the bathroom, but I had to do it for my friends when they visited! I am pretty sure people thought we were the craziest family in all the land.

The training was successful with one of my cats but since we had to keep a regular litter box around for the other cat, she just ended up resorting back to that. Fail.

What's the rush?

Disclaimer: Young twenty something newlyweds or soon to be newlyweds, please don't hate me. Just my opinion, but I am a firm believer of the "to each their own" and "whatever makes you happy" principles of life. So wise, huh? Mehhh.

Anyhoos. Sooo, what's this sudden common rush to get married? Sometimes I am just confused by the amount of people my age (and younger) that are married/engaged! For real, it's insane. It's 2011, I thought the average age of getting married was rising? Sure doesn't seem like it. I've got a couple theories why there has been a wedding boom:

1. The GFC - aka, the Global Financial Crisis. When I graduated from college there were like no jobs. Seriously. My super smart friends with awesome internships couldn't get nothin. I was just going to law school so I didn't have anything to worry about, right? Wrong. Everyone suddenly decided to go to law school suddenly. Stupid. Anyways, my point is, people weren't graduating with the security of having a job and knowing their life wasn't going to be a big black hole of suckiness after the best 4 years of their life. {Sidebar: I miss Clemson everyday}. So, what's a sure fire way to feel secure that life is going to hand you a big blue ribbon because you're a winner? Getting married! You know for sure there is going to be someone to hold your hand, help clip coupons and keep insecurities at bay.

2. Facebook - Is it just me or has the competition for who has the most ridiculous blackout pictures from the weekend been replaced with who has the most beautiful, cute and romantic engagement/wedding pictures? I'm just saying, I can't get on Facebook without my news feed blowing up with these pictures. And I am not even going to lie and say I don't sit there and judge every single aspect of a person's wedding and how mine will be better {betches love doing this}. When you're a young twenty something girl, it is easy to be overwhelmed by all these pictures and want it all too. So this is my second theory for this wedding frenzy; girls get hooked on other people's weddings like some kind of drug and that's all they want. I've been guilty of it, but then I remind myself: a wedding isn't just about the party, there's this thing called marriage after that {yikes!}.

So I have also come up with some reasons why this shouldn't be a rush, based on myself, of course:

1. I don't eat 5 fruits and vegetables a day. I associate that with the fact that I am immature, therefore, should not get married. Albeit this is very strange logic, BUT I have gotten myself up to 3 fruits and vegetables a day. SUCCESS.

2. I still get to be selfish. Yeah, I said it. I get to be selfish and get to focus on me and the career I want to have without really thinking about anyone else. Yes my Mister Aussie and I have been dating nearly 2 years and yes I consider him greatly when I think about my plans, but at the end of the day I'm still thinking mostly about ME. And there's nothing wrong with that.

3. I'm not giving up Thanksgiving and Christmas. Well, actually I don't get Thanksgiving because I live in Australia {womp womp}, but I don't have to give in and spend Christmas with anyone elses family because I am NOT married. I do what I want. A friend told me I shouldn't think like that because apparently Mister Aussie and I are a family now. Buhhh what? But we did have a good Xmas 2010 together! And yes we're playing in the snow on Christmas Day at an Alabama rest stop:

4. I have no shame in saying, I want a nice ring! And I want my fiancee to buy it himself. I actually know of people who "borrowed" money from their parents to get the ring, SERIOUSLY?! That just amazes me. If I were a dude, my parents would straight up laugh at me if I tried to pull that.

5. This has nothing to do with me, but, if your wedding album is something a long the lines of this: ~*~OuR wEdDiNg~*~ .....

Ironically, here's a couple wedding cakes I LOVE:

10 Most Annoying Couples

Just to humor myself, I came up with the 10 Most Annoying Couples list.

*Disclaimer: these are my own personal opinions and should also not be taken too seriously

1. The "I will die if I don't spend every second of my day with you" couple.
This includes but is not limited to couples that:
  • Can't even go to the grocery store alone.
  • If they go a whole 24 hours without seeing each other, curl up in the fetal position because they just can't handle the DISTANCE!
I don't care who ya are, everyone needs "me" time. I know if I don't get "Katy" time it feels like I am a volcano that will erupt with searing lava of evil glares and snide remarks.

2.  The "we're so in love that we have to broadcast it to the world by fondling each other in public" couple.
O-em-gee, this one really irks me. I am talking about the ones that literally just can't keep their hands off each other and just exhibit WAY too much PDA. Not only does it make everyone around them feel uncomfortable and awkward, but it also makes them seem like they're desperate to validate their relationship.

3. The "please don't tag this picture of me on facebook or my girlfriend/boyfriend will get mad" couple.
If your significant other can't handle the fact that you socialize and spend time with members of the opposite sex in a fun and innocent manner, then you should probably reconsider their sanity. Also, if you find yourself saying the above statement anytime a camera is pulled out for a pic of you and another girl/guy then you should reconsider your own sanity.

4. The "we never fight" couple.
First response: HAHAHAHA!
For starters, any healthy relationship is going to have some fights in it. That means you are actually communicating. It might not be in the most productive way all the time, but you're trying. True, there is that honeymoon phase where everything is blissful and perfect, but if your relationship is progressing into a substantial relationship you are bound for some skirmishes and disagreements. However, if it's often then see #6

5. The "our relationship emerged from him cheating on his ex-girlfriend with me, and I just can't believe he's cheating on me now!" couple.
We'll call them Ed and Shirley.  Ed was cheating on his then long term girlfriend with Shirley. Ed broke up with that girlfriend to be with Shirley. Ed then cheats on Shirley and Shirley is in the corner of the party boohooing because she's in SHOCK that Ed would do such a thing because they are so in love! Then to top it off, Shirley stays with Ed because "it won't happen again".  However, we all know it did. A lot. Shaking my head.

6. The "it's only on days that end in 'y' that we fight" couple.
As mentioned above, fights happen in relationships, but if you find yourself preparing each day for the next relationship battle, then maybe you should reevaluate it. I'm sorry, Jordan Sparxx, but love does NOT always feel like a battlefield.

7. The "I actually don't know if we're dating right now" couple.
Yea we were all pulling for Rachel and Ross and Carrie and Big, but in reality, it doesn't work like that. On again and off again couples just make no sense. I agree sometimes couples do need a break for a variety of personal reasons but that's one break. Not 20.

8. The "incognito" couple.
Ya know, the ones that think their slyness is worthy enough for a CIA career. I'm not sure why people do it, maybe they think that their being together is a such a powerful combination that it will create a sequence of events that will forever change the universe so it's best to keep it a secret. Sorry buddies, but everyone has known for weeks.

9. The "I don't want to break up because I don't want to be single" couple.
That's like saying, "I don't want to be the only one who didn't, so sure I'll drink the arsenic laced Kool-Aid". Enough said.

And the last, but not least,...

10. The "we're so much better than that" couple.
This is pretty much every couple in existence. We all think we're the best couple to exist since Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. I'll admit it, Steve and I are guilty of it:
Me: Did you hear about what happened with Alfalfa and Darla?
Steve: Yea! That's so ridiculous.Who would do that??
Both of us (with a smirk): We're so much better than that.
